Favorite Coffee Shops & Cafés in Columbia City

    Coffeeholic House

Not your average corner café, Coffeeholic House is Seattle’s first Vietnamese specialty coffee shop. Opened in 2020 by wife-and-husband duo Chen Dien and Trang Cao, it introduces patrons to the flavors of authentic Vietnamese coffee (beyond the typical condensed milk drip). Instagram-worthy drinks include the Coffeeholic Dream (a creamy Vietnamese iced coffee topped with cheese foam) and the Ube Latte, which turns earthy purple yam into a frothy, slightly nutty treat. They roast beans in-house and craft drinks to order, adding a fresh twist for Seattleites wanting a break from standard lattes.

    Olympia Coffee

Columbia City's Olympia Coffee is the Seattle outpost of the respected Olympia Coffee Roasting Co., an award-winning Washington roaster that's grown thoughtfully with a strong commitment to ethical sourcing and direct trade. Inside, you’ll find a chic, minimalist space where the focus is on carefully brewed single-origin pour-overs, expertly pulled espresso drinks, and a rotating selection of pastries from local bakers. Unlike larger chains, Olympia Coffee keeps its menu focused and its sourcing transparent, partnering directly with farmers for quality and sustainability. Be sure to check out their rare and micro-lot offerings.

    Empire Roasters and Records

Empire Roasters and Records pairs two Seattle obsessions: carefully crafted coffee and a love for music, especially vinyl. Tucked into the heart of the historic business district, it started out in 2009 as local coffee bar known for its expertly pulled espresso shots and house-made waffles. Over time, it evolved into Empire Roasters and Records, roasting its own beans and adding a small but well-curated collection of records for sale, from well-loved staples in jazz and soul, to indie rock, classic rock, R&B, and more. Regulars come for the precise pours and flavorful espresso drinks, as well as the classic waffles topped with fresh fruit or Nutella. Small batches focus on well-balanced profiles that highlight sweetness and clarity.

With roots in Beacon Hill, its Columbia City location offers espresso drinks made with Herkimer Coffee, alongside house specialties like horchata lattes and Mexican mochas. The interior features local murals and art, and regularly hosts poetry readings, music events, and neighborhood gatherings.

Customers can expect straightforward, well-executed espresso drinks, drip coffee, and occasional seasonal specialties alongside the bakery’s handmade croissants, rustic loaves, and morning buns.
